Wedding Wednesday {Going On Our Honeymoon!}

Ok, ok, I know what you're thinking. Wasn't a destination wedding enough? Or maybe we'd be done after our hometown reception? It would have been easy to just stop there, but I decided to head my father's advice and take a full fledged honeymoon while I had the chance.

So very soon we depart, yet again, this time for a trek through Europe and I could not be more excited. Our first stop: Amsterdam!

It's a homecoming of sorts, as my grandmother immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands in 1932. I cannot wait to go on a bike ride, take a boat down the canals, visit the Van Gogh museum, and people watch in sidewalk cafes, browse through local shops and discover local hidden gems.

I'm banking all the insider info I can right now, so if you have a favorite spot in Amsterdam, please let me know!

I too, want to sleeping and sipping espresso from a house boat, along the canals of Amsterdam.

Cheers!...to You, you lucky ducks! <3

Wow, that is so funny. I live in Amsterdam!
Amsterdam is a great city. We have amazing cafes, great restaurants and museums. If you have enough time you could check out the Rijksmuseum or the Anne Frank museum (het achterhuis).

My favorite spot is the 9 straatjes (the nine streets). These are full of great stores and nice places to eat.
I hope you have a great time!

I was lucky enough to make a flying visit to Amsterdam recently and was treated to dinner at De Kas - it's fabulous. It's a restaurant in a former greenhouse in one of the city's parks and they grow their own fruit and veg on-site so the food is fresh as well as delish! And if you don't go for the food, go for the sleek Scandinavian interior design If you get good weather it could be pretty special! Enjoy x

I love your blog and I am thrilled to read that you booked your honeymoon to Amsterdam. I also live & work in Amsterdam. It's an amazing place. Indeed restaurant De Kas is nice and don't miss the 9 streets with the nice boutiques. If the weather is good, rent a bike! Avoid the red light district, its a horrible tourist trap. Here are a few nice spots to check out with your lovely husby:

Restaurant Toscanini:

The most beautifull cinema of the world (inside!!):www.pathe.nl/tuschinski

My fave place to eat cheap but well in the city was La Place. Normally anyone would know to tell you how to get there. They serve fresh fresh fresh and cooked in front of you. Plus, you can also take out for a snack on the go.
You can also visit a house-boat, the tulip museum, etc.
Let us know of your next destinations, perhaps us europeans can help a bit. :)

First off, I absolutely love your blog and follow it daily. Also, congrats on the wedding!

Both times I was in Amsterdam I visited the Anne Frank Museum. It is such a piece of real history. I grew up learning about WWII and reading "The Diary of Anne Frank", but to be faced with the real, physical remnants of that portion of history absolutely blew me away. So worth it!

Oh, and early mornning strolls around the canal with a hot cup of coffee and your husband is pretty much perfection!

Have a ball!

Yay! Amsterdam is SO romantic!!! Definitely do a canal tour, early morning coffee and croissants are a must, and here are a few ultra-romantic restaurants:

http://www.envy.nl/ (very cool, modern space. Everything is super fresh. You eat lots of little small plates that are bursting with flavor)

www.vyne.nl (it's a really romantic, small wine bar just a couple of doors down from Envy. Modern and super nice! I would go there before/after dinner at Envy)

http://www.casadidavid.com/ (This is a really small, rustic and romantic Italian restaurant right along the canals. Complete with wood burning oven!)

But the most romantic of all is just walking along the canals and taking in the great ambiance of the city!

Have so much fun!!!

Ah have an amazing time, it's on my hit list as it has so many wonderful things I love to offer - tulips, cycling, cafe culture and impressionist paintings. I don't have any hot spot recommendations but would love to hear yours when you get back!

I was there so long ago that I don't remember specifics, but I do remember going to a diamond factory and wanting to purchase one so bad. I was a teenager at the time so it didn't make sense for me to buy one, but you my friend definitely deserve to! Have fun!

Have a lovely time! It's a beautiful country. If you can make the time to visit Delft, I highly recommend it. It was my favorite Dutch city.

Hi there ! I traveled to Amsterdam a few years ago and stayed at the NH hotel City Center and loved the style and design. It's a 3-star and not that expensive so you can enjoy some more shopping there ;-)

I'm Dutch and live in Amsterdam. Please don't miss the bio market on the Noordermarkt on saturday morning, or on monday morning there's an antique market at the same spot. Try the warm applepie at the cafe on the corner with the benches outside. The best in the city! Then go for lunch at Letting at the Prinsenstraat 3 not to far from the Noordermarkt. Dinner at Eetcafe van Beeren on the Koningsstraat near the Nieuwmarkt, it has a hidden garden in the back (ssst, it's a secret)
Enjoy!!!

I'm dutch and my father lives in Amsterdam so I know the city quite well. I'm sure you will love it, it's a great place to visit! You should really go eat french fries ('friet' or 'patat' as we call them) at the best place in town in a street called the Voetboogsteeg. It's perfect and you get it a white paper cone.

Also, try to visit the Noordermarkt, near the Noorderkerk, a market in the lovely burrough called the Jordaan. Every Monday you can find vintage clothes, antiques and other stuff, on Saturday there is a farmers market.

Have fun!
